Who am I?
Hi, my name is Kirk. I am a work at home software engineer trying out technologies like WordPress, PHP, Twitter, Joomla, etc. I have had experience with ASP, PERL, and PHP but never have I been able to break free of the AS/400. I am excited that I am able to get back to the Internet, build on my past experiences and learn some new technologies since primarily being an AS/400 developer since the early 1990's.
While working in the AS/400 world, I typically commuted to my job that was out of town in locations like Dallas - TX, Jacksonville - FL, Grand Rapids - MI, Minneapolis - MN, Greenville - NC, Des Moines - IA, Cedar Rapids - IA, etc. I think you get the idea. While having a large amount of frequent flyer miles can be nice, my work took me away from my family nearly 50 weeks a year for the last 12 years which is not so nice.
So finding a work at home option is very appealing but challenging at the same time. Since researching the possibilities for a work at home option, I have found it difficult getting through the clutter and finding "real" opportunities. I am going share through this blog what worked and what did not.
Because of having so many new experiences and learning new things at a very rapid pace, I decided to use this old domain I had for a WordPress Blog to learn WordPress and further my Internet skills.
I am hopeful that some dialog will be started where I am able to learn from other's contributing about their experiences and meet new people.
If you have made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read about me and I hope you have the chance to read about the technologies I am using, working from home, work from home oppotunities and that you will either learn from or contribute to this blog.
Kirk
